Choosing the right name for your list can be a real challenge. The name should reflect, as accurately as possible, the purpose of your list. It should also be as short as possible.

List names often begin with an (abbreviated) place name. If your list is intended for people in a particular geographic region, it's a good idea to do this. An example of a list I'm on that does this is the "Aussie ISP" list (a discussion list for Australian ISPs), which is ozisp@aussie.net

Where there are several lists dealing with a related topic, it is usual to use a suffix to indicate the purpose of each list. Common examples include:
