A ten-year old girl falls out of a tree and scrapes her knee. Many years later, the same (in the conventional sense of the word) woman has grown old. As she rocks in her chair, she thinks fondly of the tree escapade so many years ago. The woman's memory is good, her mind is sharp, and she has undergone no surgery -- in short, she has had a very normal, prototypical life (by 20th century standards). Is the old woman the same person as the girl? Put another way, has the girl survived to the old woman's time? [It may seem an obvious question, but great errors may be made by neglecting the obvious!]
